1976 BMW 2002

I found it. After more than four years and 3,000 miles, my 1976 BMW 2002 is currently residing in Newberry, Florida, just east west of Gainesville. How did I track it down? A new website that allows you to plug in your long lost love's VIN (that's Vehicle Identification Number for those acronym averse) and spits out its last registered location.

Check My Ride from AutoCheck is a social network for cars, allowing you to build a profile, add vehicles, find your old hoopties and connect with their current owners. You can also import some of the data into Facebook and get a free history report on your current car.

Admittedly, AutoCheck is a big buggy at the moment (it took several tries to get the info on some of our past rides), but we're currently scouring our file cabinets for old maintenance folders and I'm trying to track down the VIN for my very first car, a (God help me) 1991 Plymouth Horizon. After that, I've gotta find the 1984 Supra, the 1970 510, the 1972 2002, the E36 318i...

Tasting notes - Berlin Tasting

Here follows my tasting notes from The Berlin Tasting in Copenhagen. No. 1 - 2005 Chateau Mouton-Rothschild (Bordeaux) Dark colour with intense smell of pencil, cigar, currant and spicy wood. It’s full-bodied, rich and concentrated but also with an upfront softness. 96/100. No. 2 - 2004 Sassicaia (Tuscany) Not so intense in the nose - a little cherry. The [...]

Stoner: Victory feels like 2007 again

Honda's Casey Stoner said his win in the MotoGP season-opener in Qatar felt similar to the start of his dominant 2007 campaign. The Australian has now won at Losail four times in five years, but he said today's performance in his first race as a factory Honda rider felt particularly reminiscent of when he stunned the paddock by taking his maiden win in the '07 opener and went on to charge to the title with Ducati in his first season at the squad. "It definitely couldn't be any better," said Stoner.

iRacing for Japan in Connecticut

More than 250 iRacers raced at two tracks in Connecticut yesterday in support of Red Cross relief efforts following the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The suggested minimum donation of $10 per race, together with $500 pledged by iRacing.com, puts the total amount pledged to the Red Cross from the event at over $3,000. The races were held at Lime Rock Park and Thomson International Speedway with Mazda Roadsters and Street Stocks, respectively. Daniel Lpez (Iberia) led all the points-getters at Lime Rock with 146 markers from two wins in as many starts, with Martti Pietila (Finland) and Flavien Vidal (Eastern Canada) second and third with 134 and 125 points apiece. Across the state at Thompson it was Nick Ottinger (Carolina) coming out on top in Street Stocks with 187 [...]

Remembering A Cornerstone Of My Wine Education

I usually don’t have the time to read the weekend edition of the Wall Street Journal until Sunday along with the morning paper. And usually I just grab the “Off Duty” section where the food and wine coverage appears. This weekend, the wine column is by Jay McInerney who profiles wine writer and salesmen Alexis [...]
